Prototypes are in progress
First published: 14 February 2021
This is just a quick update to confirm that 4 prototype Whimsy cases have (finally) been ordered and as planned, these will be milled and finished in all colour options that Whimsy is planned to be available in.
It has been no easy task to find a firm in the UK that could provide the Bazooka Pink(H-244) and Stormtrooper White(H-297) Cerakote finish that we require, that being said, i'm happy to confirm that this is finally in the bag.
Until i have photos of the prototypes to share, here's some photos i found which should help illustrate what i'm expecting from the Whimsy cases.
With the placement of this order, this additionally means that I've successfully secured factories nearby to provide machining and finishing for the production run as well 🙏.
As you may be aware, manufacturing Whimsy in the UK was an important factor from the start of this project and i'm stoked that it's finally able to go this way.
I've also been given a finished case weight of 0.6kg for each case (obviously this is excluding PCB, plate, components, switches and caps though), final build weight would be somewhere around 0.9kg I would estimate.
The approximate delivery date of these cases is around 10 working days from today, which would land us somewhere toward the end of the month. I know I suggested the group buy would run in February but without these prototypes (and a fully built and working Whimsy to show you all), I'm not comfortable running the buy. Apologies to all of the disappointed faces out there.
Thank you to everyone sticking with me throughout this journey so far. We're nearly at the home straight now and it's incredible to see everyone so excited about the upcoming group buy and being so vocal. It's humbling, to say the least.
Hopefully, updates should now start appearing a little more frequently with progression around Whimsy starting to ramp up. As soon as I know something, so will you.
Take care ✌️
