Test PCBs have arrived!
First published: 25 November 2020
A little over a week or so back, the PCBs were as close to "signed off" as they could be at this stage, and the order was finally placed for what is hopefully, the last round of testing 🙌
A couple of days ago, the PCBs arrived and in the interest of transparancy, here are some pictures and a little roadmap update to keep everyone up to speed!
Really happy with how these are looking and the slight tweaks made to the right side of the PCB have made a real difference to the overall spacing of the PCB. Prior to these changes, things felt a little cramped over there and not as clean as they could be.
There's also been the addition of the 128x64 OLED option (which is going to be tested as soon as possible). This has meant that the standoff spacing and through-holes have been moved slightly from the original PCB.
Now that the PCBs have been delivered, there's one minor tweak that needs to be made to the PCBs prior to final production which is to replace the current "rigid" circular through-holes under the acrylic with wider slots.
This should allow for the ever so slightest of adjustment potential with the PCB and plate once the board is ready to assemble. Without the slots on the standoff side, it's pretty pointless having slots elsewhere as the movement will be restricted.
Tweaks aside, the physical size of the PCB is final and so the 3D printed case samples can now be ran out and tweaked if needs be. This will be happening over the next few days and another update will be posted as soon as possible.
There will also be a test print of the plate and acrylic 3D printed at the same time so they can be tested prior to getting final samples done and ready for the machined case.
Keep checking back for more information and updates on the 3D printed case prototype!
Again, Thank you to everyone who's shown support towards Whimsy... It's genuinely appreciated and as always, feel free to drop a message if you have any questions at all.
Take care and speak soon ✌️
